COLUMBIA — A 24-year-old Columbia man was shot in the shoulder at about 10 p.m. Tuesday while walking near the intersection of Snead and Demaret drives, said Major Tom Reddin of the Boone County Sheriff's Department.

Two males, both of whom were armed with handguns, approached the victim. After a brief confrontation, the victim was shot and fled the scene on foot, police said. The victim was treated and released from a local hospital.

There is no indication that anything had been stolen, but the possibility of robbery as a motive is not being ruled out, Reddin said.

The suspects were in a dark-colored, extended-cab pickup truck with tinted windows.

The Columbia Police Department responded to a shooting early Tuesday morning on Quail Drive and have not heard anything on whether the two incidents are related, said Officer Jessie Haden, a spokeswoman for the Columbia Police Department.

“When we investigated Quail Drive, victims and witnesses were uncooperative and we don’t have much to go on,” Haden said. “Clearly our investigators will get in touch with the county.”
