JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri shoppers can buy school supplies Friday through Sunday without paying state sales taxes.
It's the annual sales taxes holiday on clothes, computers and other back-to-school purchases. No state sales tax will be collected on certain items.
More than 150 cities and 52 counties are also waiving their local sales taxes. Columbia and Boone County, however, have opted out of the sales tax revocation, so shoppers will still have to pay local sales tax but not the state tax.
The waiver is good on up to $100 worth of clothing, although jewelry and some other accessories are excluded. Up to $50 worth of school supplies won't be taxed. And no state sales tax will be charged on computers valued at up to $3,500.
