JEFFERSON CITY — A federal trial has been postponed until November for the owners of a southwest Missouri group for the mentally ill where 11 people died in a November 2006 fire.
Robert and LaVerne DuPont originally were scheduled to go to trial later this month on charges of health care fraud, conspiracy and money laundering. They have pleaded not guilty.
The delay comes after their co-defendant and daughter, Kelley Wheeler, pleaded guilty last week to a federal theft charge involving Medicaid payments.
State fire investigators think faulty electrical wiring in the attic most likely was the cause of the fire that destroyed the Anderson Guest House. The facility never reopened.
