JEFFERSON CITY — Gov. Jay Nixon has appointed a Kansas City attorney to the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission.
Nixon on Tuesday selected Stephen Miller to take over for commissioner Mike Kehoe, who resigned last month to run for the state Senate.
The six-member commission oversees construction and maintenance of the state's highway system and also distributes money to other modes of transportation. The governor said Miller has more than 25 years of experience in transportation and construction law.
Miller, 51, is a Republican who would serve through the remainder of Kehoe's term, which ends March 1, 2011. His appointment is subject to Senate confirmation when lawmakers return in January.
