At a news conference Tuesday, Nixon said the fair gives Missouri families something to do at the end of summer without "breaking the bank." The governor spoke outside the headquarters of the state Department of Agriculture.
The fair is dropping adult admission on opening day to $1 from the standard $8. On Sunday, the fair is offering free admission to a grandstand concert by the band Kansas.
