Rolla public defender's death ruled a suicide

ROLLA — Police in Rolla have determined that an assistant public defender killed himself.

Detective Hank Harper said Monday that 28-year-old John Paige Williams died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Harper said it is not known what prompted the apparent suicide.

Williams' body was found Tuesday inside his home. The death was initially called suspicious, prompting an investigation by police.

District Defender Donna Holden says Williams primarily handled cases in Texas County.
