COLUMBIA — The top floor of Hitt Street parking garage is alive with sounds: catcalls, the squeals of bike tires, the sharp clack of mallet smacking mallet.

To the 20 or so cyclists who meet on top of the garage three to four times each week, these noises are common. They’re a byproduct of a fierce game of bike polo.

Three of these cyclists will be going to Philadelphia for the Hardcourt Bike Polo World Championships on Labor Day weekend.
