Boone County included in mid-Missouri flash flood watch

Heavy rain forecast Wednesday night and early Thursday has prompted a flash flood watch for Boone County and much of central Missouri.

The watch issued by the National Weather Service begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday and extends through Thursday afternoon.

"Heavy rains over the past few days have left the ground very saturated, especially along the north of Interstate 70," a Weather Service statement issued at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday said. "Additional strong thunderstorms with heavy rain are forecast to develop tonight and overspread the region, creating a flash flooding threat."

The Weather Service said rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected from storms tonight and early Thursday, with locally higher amounts possible.

A flash flood watch means flooding is possible but not imminent.
