COLUMBIA — A Wednesday morning collision involving three vehicles slowed traffic and left one person with a minor injury.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Broadway and Stadium Boulevard. One motorist suffered a minor burn as a result of airbag deployment, but declined medical transportation.
According to police reports, Lindsay Rhinehart of Columbia was turning northbound onto Stadium when she was broadsided by a 2006 Acura MDX. The Acura was then rear ended by a 1999 Honda Accord. The driver of the Acura suffered a minor abrasion burn from the car's air bag, and the car's passenger sustained no injury. Rhinehart was issued a citation for failure to stop at a red light.
Lt. Michael Cox of the Columbia Fire Department said the Acura and the Accord were traveling together and the Accord was following too closely. The driver of the Accord was preparing to move in for the upcoming semester with the help of his parents who were in the Acura.
Cox said wet pavement was likely a contributor to the accident. Names of the other drivers were not released on the scene.
