Health, education officials urge flu preparations

JEFFERSON CITY — State health and education officials are urging Missouri schools to prepare for a possible flu outbreak this year.
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education says it has sent letters to local school districts in conjunction with the Department of Health and Senior Services. The letter says that schools should be prepared for a possible resurgence of the H1N1 flu.

Education Commissioner Chris Nicastro said schools should watch for the flu at the start of the school year — not just during the typical wintertime flu season.
