PrintA checkpoint set up by the MU Police Department netted 14 arrests and four citations, the department reported.
Of the 14, nine were arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Another three were arrested on suspicion of possession of alcohol by a minor. The department also arrested one person on suspicion of driving with a suspended license and another on suspicion of driving without a license.
Four tickets were issued on suspicion of failure to provide proof of insurance.
The checkpoint was from 11 p.m. Friday until 2:30 a.m. Saturday on Hitt Street between Rollins Road and University Avenue. Police said 126 vehicles went through the checkpoint.
The department set up the checkpoint in conjunction with the Boone County Sheriff's Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Columbia Police Department as part of “You Drink & Drive, You Lose,” a DWI enforcement campaign.

Great job law enforcement. Now let's all hope that the judges take the real action and impose the real strong sentences needed to send the message that this will not be continued to be tolerated.
Somebody's son,daughter,mom,dad or any family member or friend saved by these check points could be your own.
I wonder how much money the various departments spent on thie effort and how many people (more or less) might have been pulled off the road if the various officers had been on patrol instead of relegated to one small road?

Are you talking about the nine arrested for DWI, the other drunk drivers these cops couldn't patrol for, or anyone driving a car on the roads of Columbia? If the latter, then I agree with your statement that any of them have the means to be a killer.
John you forget about that there are other law enforcement out on patrol at that time too.
They more than likely stop other cars and write tickets for alot of the above. Too bad the writer of this article did not include those numbers too.
It would be real uneducated to think all of the CPD and all of BCSD are only sitting in that one location.

Right Chuck, there are other law enforcement personnel patrolling the city and county. I'm just curious how this checkpoint compares to the stops by the other officers for that night on a per officer basis. Might be some interesting research for the Missourian to perform on the daily arrest numbers.
