ST. LOUIS — About $2.7 million in federal stimulus money will go to a project in the St. Louis Great Streets Initiative.

U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan, a Democrat who represents south St. Louis , was joined Wednesday by city aldermen and restaurant owners in the city's South Grand business district. They said the funds will be used to improve a section of South Grand and make it more pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly.

Carnahan, along with Aldermen Jennifer Florida and Steve Conway said the redesign, which is still in the works, will improve safety and enhance the viability of surrounding neighborhoods and the strip's many international restaurants and other businesses.

The South Grand project is one of four in the St. Louis Great Streets Initiative.
