The Columbia College men's soccer team opened its season Friday with a 3-2 victory over the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.
After the first half ended in a tie at 1, Yudai Yamaguchi scored his first goal as a Cougar when he tipped the ball off the keeper’s hand. The goal was assisted by Tim Tevlin and Jimmy Herrman. One minute later the Cougars went up 3-1 when Dylan Barduzzi scored on a penalty kick.
IIT scored with under three minutes to go, but Columbia College held on for the victory. Lloyd Jacobs scored the Cougars first-half goal on a free kick. Ken Searles picked up the win in goal with six saves.
