Missouri freshman quarterback Dalton dismissed from football team

COLUMBIA – Missouri backup quarterback Blaine Dalton was dismissed from the football team Friday morning.

The dismissal followed Dalton's arrest at 1:16 a.m. Friday on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, operating an unlicensed motor vehicle, and failing to drive within a single lane, MU police captain Brian Weimer said.

According to MU police, Dalton, 18, was arrested at the corner of Hitt Street and University Avenue.

Dalton was previously arrested April 30 on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance. He was released from jail a few hours later. Following that incident, he was suspended indefinitely by the Missouri football program. He was reinstated in early June.

Dalton had been taking snaps with both the second and third teams in practice, sharing duties with sophomore Jimmy Costello. Dalton completed five passes on 12 attempts for 18 yards in the team’s Thursday scrimmage at Devine Pavilion. He threw one interception.

Last season, Dalton’s Blue Springs South Jaguars lost to Hazelwood Central in the Class 6 state championship game. He graduated high school early to come to MU in the spring. He completed three passes on 7 attempts for 46 yards in the Tigers’ spring game.

Along with first-stringer Blaine Gabbert and Costello, the Tigers also have freshmen Ashton Glaser and Owen Lenander as quarterbacks on the roster.
