Flags fly at half-staff in memory of Missouri soldier

JEFFERSON CITY — Gov. Jay Nixon has ordered that flags on state buildings in Wright County be flown at half-staff until Sunday to honor a soldier killed in Afghanistan.

Twenty-year-old Army Private First Class Jonathan Yanney of Norwood died on Aug. 18 while serving in Afghanistan.

Flags at state buildings throughout Missouri were also flown at half-staff on Monday, the day of his funeral.

Yanney was assigned 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment based in Fort Lewis, Wash. He had numerous awards and decorations, including the Bronze Star Medal.
