The Cash for Clunkers program was beneficial. It replaced gas-guzzlers with gas-efficient vehicles, which helps the economy and environment. It was designed to be a short-term stimulus for car sales, and it was. Whether or not the increased sales will be sustained will be determined by other factors. Compared to the many billions of dollars wasted on weapons systems that are not needed and on the Iraq debacle, the cost was a wonderful deal for taxpayers.
