COLUMBIA – Daniel Morris of Columbia was injured in a motorcycle collision on Business Loop 70 East around 4:38 p.m. Tuesday. The driver and passenger of the car were unharmed.
Morris, who was traveling west on Business Loop 70 on his motorcycle, crashed into the back passenger door of a red Ford Focus, which was turning left into the parking lot of EXPRESSTAX across from Hickman High School.
Broken glass, spilled gas and plastic pieces of motorcycle forced drivers heading west on Business Loop 70 into an eastbound lane for about 25 minutes.
Columbia Police Officer Kimberly Green said Morris, who was taken by ambulance to University Hospital, was conscious and breathing but in a lot of pain. He was listed in fair condition at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Dusty Walter, who was following the motorcycle in his truck, said Morris took a nose dive into the Ford Focus and flew offof the motorcycle.
The collision shattered two passenger-side windows of the Focus and crushed the back passenger door.
The Ford Focus was driven by Columbia resident H.R. Ricketts. Ricketts’ passenger Shirley Lue had been reading a book and didn’t see the motorcycle until it was just outside her window. Both were wearing their seat belts.
Ricketts said Morris changed lanes while he was behind Walter's pickup truck, near where Ricketts was attempting to turn.
Police did not issue any citations.
