Columbia resident assaults man with sword

COLUMBIA — A Columbia man injured one person and threatened others with a sword near the 1300 block of Millbrook Court on Monday around 9:40 p.m., according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.

According to Sgt. Mike Krohn, the man, Eric P. Douglas, is a "martial arts enthusiast" who uses the sword in his martial arts activities.

Deputies arrested Douglas, 34, on suspicion of unlawful use of a weapon.

It is unclear why Douglas assaulted his victim, Krohn said, but he appears to know the victim, who was taken to a hospital and treated for a minor injury.

The Boone County Sheriff's office will continue to investigate this case.
