KANSAS CITY — Harley-Davidson Inc. says it will not build a second manufacturing plant in Kansas City.
The Kansas City Star reports that the motorcycle manufacturer told city officials Monday that the city did not make the cut as Harley-Davidson looks to build a potential replacement for its plant in York, Pa. The plant was expected to bring 1,300 jobs.
The other cities still in the running include Shelbyville, Ind.; Shelbyville, Ky.; and Murfreesboro, Tenn. Pennsylvania state officials have said they'll offer incentives to keep the plant in York.
Company spokesman Bob Klein said the other cities scored higher than Kansas City on certain criteria but didn't go into details.
Harley-Davidson has operated a plant in Kansas City since 1997.
