NEOSHO — Officials said a 21-year-old Goodman man is dead after being hit by a train he apparently didn't know was coming because he was wearing earphones.

The Newton County Sheriff's Office says the man was walking along railroad tracks south of Neosho's airport Friday night when the train hit him and threw him several hundred feet.

The Newton County sheriff told Springfield television station KYTV that the man didn't hear the train or notice it as it came up from behind.

The death is considered accidental. The name of the victim has not been released.

In another train mishap, a 3-year-old boy was in critical condition after being hit by a train Friday morning as he was walking with his father in St. Louis County.
