COLUMBIA — Deputies worked overtime from Aug. 21 through Monday to identify and arrest drunken drivers.
After a period of concentrated efforts to identify people who were driving while intoxicated, Boone County deputies arrested 26 people.
Preliminary numbers of statewide arrests made during the campaign:
Misdemeanor DWI arrests: 90
Felony DWI arrests: 10
Minor in possession arrests: 13
Speed citations: 234
Seat belt citations: 180
Other hazardous moving violations: 46
Child restraint violations: 17
Non-moving violations: 99
Driving without valid license: 88
Uninsured motorists: 64
Misdemeanor drug arrests: 49
Total misdemeanor arrests: 842
Total felony arrests: 39
Total arrests, citations, violations: 1,017
Total warnings: 1,953
Preliminary numbers of Columbia arrests made throughout the campaign:
Seven DWI arrests, (one was a drug impaired driver)
13 arrests or citations for minor in possession of alcohol
Four arrests or citations for misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance
Three arrests or citations for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia
Three arrests or citations for driving while suspended or revoked
Three arrests or citations for driving without a valid license
70 drivers failed to produce proof of insurance
One registration violation (failure to register a motor vehicle)
Three hazardous moving violations
25 non-hazardous moving violations
The efforts were part of the statewide campaign called "You Drink & Drive, You Lose." The heightened awareness period was funded by the Missouri Department of Transportation Highway Safety Division.
The 26 arrests occurred during regular and overtime shifts, Sgt. Brian Leer of the Boone County Sheriff's Department said.
