ST. CLAIR — A 10-year-old eastern Missouri boy has died of accidental strangulation while playing on a makeshift rope swing.
The Franklin County Sheriff's office said Seth Williams died Friday. Authorities believe the accident happened while he was swinging on the rope by putting his chin through the loop and hanging on with his hands.
A group of St. Clair High School cheerleaders spotted Seth hanging from the rope and initially thought he was teasing them. But they approached and found him unresponsive. His mother heard cries for help ran outside.
Emergency crews rushed Seth to St. John's Mercy Hospital in Washington, where he was pronounced dead.
