COLUMBIA — A man suspected in 15 bank robberies in five states was arrested Saturday afternoon in a Kingdom City motel.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Chad E. Schaffner on warrants for bank robbery, burglary, armed robbery and receiving stolen property, highway patrol Sgt. Paul Reinsch said.

Schaffner, 37, is a suspect in bank robberies in Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina, Reinsch said.

The highway patrol received a tip that a person in Kingdom City matched a subject featured on the television program “America’s Most Wanted” in connection with a bank robbery in Caseyville, Ill.

Reinsch said Schaffner was taken into custody without resistance and was being held in Callaway County Jail on Sunday afternoon.
