COLUMBIA — Anheuser-Busch InBev says it will soon stop selling Bud Light cans sporting the the black and gold of the Missouri Tigers in the Columbia area.

KRCG-TV reports that the St. Louis-based brewer sent a letter to MU Chancellor Brady Deaton earlier this month saying the company would end the promotion in Columbia "in the near future."

The brewer's letter does not say exactly when the promotion will stop.

Deaton was one of several university officials who complained since the brewer began selling sells cans of Bud Light in school colors. They contend the campaign promotes underage drinking and infringes on trademarks.

In its letter to Deaton, Anheuser-Busch said it did not believe it had infringed on any rights or caused any confusion, but said it would discontinue the sales to preserve its relationship with the university.
