COLUMBIA — A sobriety checkpoint conducted by the Boone County Sheriff’s Department early this morning resulted in six arrests for driving while intoxicated and a number of other violations.
The checkpoint also resulted in a felony drug arrest, one arrest for driving with a suspended driver’s license, four adult liquor law violations, one "zero tolerance" violation, three citations for failing to provide proof of insurance and one summons for failure to register a motor vehicle, according to the release.
About 150 vehicles were checked, according to a news release from the department.
The checkpoint was carried out at the 200 block of Old Plank Road East in Columbia and lasted from midnight to 3 a.m.
The sixth arrest occurred when deputies spotted a speeding car while returning to the department after the scheduled checkpoint. The driver was stopped and arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
The checkpoint was conducted with the assistance of the Hallsville Police Department and support of the Boone County chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
