COLUMBIA — A 24-year-old woman died in a car crash early Monday morning, according to a press release from the Columbia Police Department.
Deborah Sweet's yellow 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt was found around 1 a.m. upside down on the side of U.S. 63 near Grindstone Parkway. Sweet lost control of the vehicle, which then traveled off of the west side of the road, hit a highway sign, went through a ditch and crashed into some trees, according to the press release. Sweet, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Public Information Officer Jessie Haden said the police department has no reason to suspect that alcohol was involved.
The vehicle had no other passengers, and the crash did not harm anyone else.
