JEFFERSON CITY — The state health department is urging Missourians to reduce the risk of senior citizens falling.
The death rate from slip and fall injuries in Missouri is nearly a third higher than the national average and the leading cause of injury death among those at least 65 years old.
State health officials said senior citizens can reduce the risk of falls by exercising, checking how medications will interact, getting regular eye exams and improving lighting in their homes.
On Tuesday, the state is holding a Falls Prevention Awareness Day with activities to help people lower the chance of injuries.
