COLUMBIA – Rock Bridge senior running back Trey Millard had a big game in the rain Thursday night at Memorial Stadium.
Next season he might return for another game at Memorial Stadium as a member of the Oklahoma football team. Missouri hosts the Sooners in next year's homecoming game.
Millard, who has signed to play for Oklahoma next fall, said he is looking forward to it.
“I might be playing here again,” Millard said. “I’m not sure of the date. It’s going to be a big deal, a welcome home."
He has played in four Providence Bowls at Memorial Stadium and participated in MU summer football camps on Faurot Field. Missouri also offered Millard a scholarship after his sophomore season.
Right now, Millard is enjoying the Bruins' 26-0 victory over the Kewpies. Hickman is 8-5 in football games against Rock Bridge and 3-3 in the series since the game has been played at Faurot Field.
“It’s pretty huge,” Millard said. “It’s a big game every year for team and to come out a winner as kings of Columbia for a year. It’s kind of a big deal. We all had to come out here and enjoy the rain as best we could. I at least went out tied (2-2 in games he played in).”
He rushed for 144 yards on 26 carries, Thursday night including rushing touchdowns in the second and third quarters.
The Kewpies relied heavily on the ground game, as well. They rushed 42 times for 203 yards, 57 from wide receiver Wesley Leftwich and 59 from running back Josh Williams. Hickman only had 36 yards through the air.
Rock Bridge quarterback Mark Pickerel ran for a 45-yard touchdown in the first quarter that put the Bruins ahead, 6-0. Sean Rush Jr. also played at quarterback and rushed for Rock Bridge’s final touchdown, a 1-yard dash with 10:59 left in the game.
In all, the Bruins ran 45 times for 242 yards, their total offense for the entire game. Pickerel attempted two passes, both which were incomplete.
Ofodile said the plan was to run the ball.
“Shoot you saw how it looked when we tried to throw it,” he said. “Do what’s working, do what we can do, do what we feel good with. It turned into that kind of game.”
