TOWN AND COUNTRY — The St. Louis suburb of Town and Country will start shooting and sterilizing deer in December to reduce the size of the animals' population.
At a meeting Thursday night, residents were told how sharp shooters will be used to reduce the numbers of deer and that veterinarians will also sterilize some of the animals to decrease population size.
KMOX radio reported that city officials said about one deer is killed each week in car crashes, causing a safety hazard.
Alderman John Hoffmann said he doesn't understand how preventing a doe from giving birth really solves the underlying safety problem. He said if a deer comes through a windshield in a car crash, it really doesn't matter if it's fertile or infertile.
