COLUMBIA - The Missouri women's soccer team opened the Big 12 Conference season with a 3-2 victory over No. 12 Oklahoma State Sunday at Walton Stadium. Bree Thornton scored twice for the Tigers, and Michelle Collins scored the winner.

Thornton scored in the 16th and 18th minutes to put Missouri ahead 2-0 going into halftime. Melinda Mercado scored for Oklahoma State in the 58th minute, and Krista Lopez tied the game in the 71st minute.

The Tigers (6-4-1, 1-0-0) scored the game-winner five minutes later when Kristin Andrighetto swung in a corner kick that bounced off Oklahoma State goalkeeper Adrianna Franch to Michelle Collins, who scored her third goal of the season.

Missouri goalkeeer Tasha Dittamore made the most important of her six saves in the 82nd minute after Oklahoma State (7-4-0, 1-2-0) was awarded a penalty kick and she dove to stop a shot by Annika Niemeier.

The Tigers return to action next weekend with games Friday at Texas and Sunday at Texas A&M.
