Missouri ranks near bottom in child care aid

JEFFERSON CITY — A new report finds that Missouri is one of the stingiest states in the nation when it comes to providing child care subsidies to low-income workers.

To qualify for child care aid in Missouri, a single parent with two children must earn less than $22,620 a year.

The National Women's Law Center said that income threshold places Missouri in the bottom five states nationally.

A majority of states provide child care aid to families earning well over $30,000 annually.

When I read the word "stingiest" I checked to see who authored this article.
One very well could have just as likely use "prudent," economical," "reasonable," or "appropriate," considering the article does not address governmental budget restraints, cost of living or child-care services available based on one's ability to pay.
