SPRINGFIELD — The Humane Society of Southwest Missouri has a new shelter.
The 15,000-square-foot facility has space for up to 200 dogs and 200 cats. The $3 million project is at the same site as the old building.
The Springfield News-Leader reports that the building was funded solely with private donations.
Shelter officials say their job is becoming tougher as they move toward finding homes for all adoptable cats and dogs and reducing the need to euthanize animals.
The shelter will be in full operation in six to eight weeks.
