Potential changes considered to state's bail bond laws

JEFFERSON CITY — The Missouri Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration is reviewing whether changes are needed to the laws and regulations governing the bail bond industry.

The department sent a survey last month to more than 1,000 agents in the bail bond industry. It is seeking responses by Friday. A 15-member committee also is planning public hearings on the topic later this month in St. Louis and Kansas City.

The review was required under legislation passed earlier this year.
