COLUMBIA — A 73-year-old Columbia man died in a car crash Monday evening. John T. Dodd was heading southbound on Wagon Trail Road when he lost control of his vehicle and hit a concrete bridge head on, according to a press release from the Boone County Sheriff's Department.

Witnesses who had seen Dodd earlier in the evening said he had been drinking, Sgt. Brian Leer said. Alcohol and driving too fast on a gravel road probably contributed to the accident, he said.

There were no other passengers in the car at the time of the crash.

It makes me sad that both the Tribune and Missourian have reported this story incorrectly. This man actually had a heart attack causing his to wreck.

Thank you. I am glad that not everyone that read the articles believed them. His family is outraged by the misleading information in the media that makes him look bad.
