JEFFERSON CITY — A suburban Kansas City attorney has been appointed to the Missouri Court of Appeals.
Cynthia Reams Martin was selected Tuesday by Gov. Jay Nixon to fill a vacancy for the court's Western District, based in Kansas City. Martin runs her own private law practice in Lee's Summit.
She will replace Judge Joseph Dandurand, who left earlier this year to work for Attorney General Chris Koster.
Martin was among three finalists submitted to Nixon by a judicial nominating commission. The other two were circuit Judges Jacqueline Cook and Gary Witt.
This was the fourth time the 50-year-old Martin had been a finalist for the appeals court. She also was a candidate for vacancies this spring, in 2007 and in 2001.
