LETTER: Health care debate much more complex than reported

Mr. Meinert must have had a brief lapse into reality, Tuesday, October 13. His column actually brought out some factual and valid points. He, as the "social justice" section of the vast Catholic faithful usually do, left out much on subsidiarity. It does not line up with the public option, or mandate as one prefers to call it. But at least he mentioned all five.

Another statistic that would aid his argument greatly would be how many of the uninsured and critical care are treated by Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran and all religious hospitals, especially after being "patient dumped" by other hospitals. That was one of Michelle Obama's hypocritical roles in her so-called job as vice president for community and external affairs at the University of Chicago Medical Center: dumping patients to Loyola or Provena Covenant and other nonprofits in the Chicago area. The state of Illinois still is multi-millions in arrears to these hospitals that did not deny health care.

There is so much more to the story than is simplistically being reported and promoted blindly, especially in the political realities to the whole debate.
