COLUMBIA — A Columbia woman was taken to the hospital Friday after her minivan was involved in a three-car collision on Range Line Street, her husband said.

Katherine Bonuchi felt numb on her left side, her husband, Jim Bonuchi, said, and she was taken to University Hospital. She had previously experienced problems with a disc in her neck, he said.

Bonuchi's gray Dodge Caravan was struck from behind by a dark gray Ford Freestar driven by Amy Davis of Columbia. Davis was turning left onto Range Line Street from Business Loop 70. Bonuchi's Caravan then made contact with a gray Subaru Legacy, driven by Loukas vanMarle, also of Columbia.

"She slammed the brakes, I slammed mine," Davis said. "It was too late."

Davis said that her shoulder hurt and that she was having trouble breathing, but added that her respiratory problems might have been due to a sore throat she had been suffering. Davis was on her way to visit a doctor at the time of the accident, she said.

Davis was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, as was vanMarle and his three-year old son, who was also in the car.

Neither vanMarle nor his son was injured, but the right rear bumper of his Subaru Legacy was dented from the collision.

"I just heard a bump, and then we were bumped," vanMarle said, "but otherwise we're okay."

It appeared that Davis was taken into custody after the accident by Columbia police. An officer at the scene bound her hands and led her into a police car, then drove away without comment. It is unclear what charge — if any — Davis faces. Police could not be reached for comment Friday night.
