SPRINGFIELD — Bass Pro Shops Manager Larry Whiteley said the company has laid off "six to eight" workers from its design and development office at the company's headquarters in Springfield.
Whiteley said those laid off worked on designing new stores. He said the company is currently not building any more stores because of the economy.
The Springfield News-Leader reports that Whiteley said Sunday that Bass Pro is hiring in other areas and is at its highest employment level of the year.
Bass Pro in Springfield is planning to hire about 40 people in its retail store for the holiday season.
