COLUMBIA — New Haven Elementary School will resume classes as scheduled Wednesday after a waterline broke at the school.

The school dismissed students at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday after the line broke, and it was repaired the same day, said Jack Jensen, assistant superintendent for elementary education.

Jensen said water will be brought to the school and hand sanitizer stations will be set up for washing until lab results have verified that the water is safe to drink. He also said the school plans to prepare Wednesday's lunch off-site and the dishes from Tuesday's lunch, which was served before the early dismissal, were taken off-site to be washed.

A news release from the Columbia Public School District on Tuesday said no child would be dismissed until contact was made with a parent or guardian and students would be kept at the school for the duration of the day if necessary. Jensen said all students had been picked up by 1:45 p.m.
