City Council wants picture of Humane Society finances

COLUMBIA — A potential third party evaluation of the Central Missouri Humane Society, suggested two weeks ago by Second Ward Councilman Jason Thornhill, is on hold while City Council waits to review other information from the local shelter.

At its pre-meeting dinner Monday, Stephanie Browning, director of the Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services, presented an information packet from the Humane Society of the United States detailing its consultation program. Browning estimated the cost of an evaluation at $18,000.

While exploring the possibility of a third-party review of the Humane Society, the council informally decided to look at the annual audit that is being prepared and financed by the local shelter.

Council members also want to see the full report from SCORE, a nonprofit organization that advises small businesses. SCORE assisted the society in analyzing its budget, financial situation and day-to-day operations.

Patty Forister, executive director of the local Humane Society, said the audit is underway and “should be wrapped up shortly.”

As a farmer and nearby resident of Boone County, I erge the Boone County Humane Society to discontinue any works with the Humane Society of the United States. HSUS is a FOR PROFIT organization whos main purpose is to "do-away-with" animal agriculture and also hunting. Wayne Pacelle, CEO of HSUS, has made this well known. HSUS only gives a very small sum of money to animals shelters. They are the leaders of animal rights movements that have been demonstrated in California, New York, Florida, and attacking Ohia and Michigan right now. In the near future, Missouri will be on their "attack list". Please do some resource on this horride company that takes money from citizens and communities in a misleading way. They do absolutely NO good for the animals in our country. All they want to do is raise money for themselves and rid of all animals. If people continue to support the HSUS, we WILL be importing all of our food, especially meat. Say NO.
Thank you.

Why isn't the ASPCA being consulted?
