PrintCOLUMBIA — The Sylvan Learning Center reopened under new ownership on Oct. 19 after a five-month hiatus.
The Columbia and Jefferson City Sylvan Learning Centers were shut down for financial reasons last spring, as previously reported by the Missourian. Jack Stanley owned the franchise then.
KCI Enterprises Inc. owns the new center, which moved to the Broadway Shops on East Broadway Boulevard, according to a press release. KCI already operates four centers in the St. Louis area.
The center has already started testing for new student tutoring, said Sherry Bare, executive director of the center. She said she hopes to have about thirty students attending sessions by the end of the month.
Bare said KCI plans to reopen the Jefferson City Sylvan center early next year.
The Sylvan Learning Center is a nationwide support center for education, tutoring students from kindergarten to college-level in subjects such as math and reading. Everything students do at the center, such as the classes or tutoring, is specialized for each individual student.
“That’s what makes Sylvan different,” Bare said.
