Sheriff's Department arrests 3 Columbia men for sex offender violations

COLUMBIA —  Three Columbia men were arrested Wednesday as a result of a Boone County Sheriff’s Department sex offender registration enforcement effort.

Missouri state law requires convicted sex offenders to register with the chief law enforcement officer in the county where they reside. In Boone County, Sheriff Dwayne Carey is the residing chief officer.

After 78 attempts to contact registrants, 39 contacts were made resulting in three arrests for violation of the law. Antoine Edwards, 26, and Orlando McDaniel, 37, both of Columbia, moved without informing the Sheriff’s Department. Mark Fuemmeler, 45, also of Columbia, failed to register as a sex offender. One more violation is pending. 

All of the contacts are made in person by an officer or an investigator to find whether those registered are still living and reside in the same location, said Detective Andrea Luntsford of the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department said it considers maintaining an accurate list of sex offenders a priority. Sex offenders who are not registered are encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Department at 875-1111.
