COLUMBIA — Third Ward Councilman Karl Skala has filed a nominating petition to seek re-election. Skala is in the final year of his first three-year term on the council. He said in an e-mail news release that he has enjoyed the role.

"I want to continue to help make our neighborhoods safer, improve our roads and city services, develop more thoughtful city planning and create a more responsive city government," Skala said in the release.

The positions of mayor and Fourth Ward councilperson also will be filled in the April election. Thus far, Jerry Wade, Sal Nuccio and Sid Sullivan have announced plans to run for mayor. No candidate has announced for the Fourth Ward.
