PrintCOLUMBIA — The Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services Department is hosting the first walk-in H1N1 clinic in the city from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Health Department.
It will administer the H1N1 vaccine at no charge for children 6 months of age to 4-years-old only. Despite concerns that the mercury-based preservative thimerosal could pose a threat to pregnant women and children under the age of 3, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services decided to suspend the restriction. Children ages 2 to 4 with no chronic medical conditions may receive FluMist in lieu of an injection.

There is no cost for the vaccine, but there could be an administrative fee charged at some clinics.
The walk-in is at the Health Department, 1005 W. Worley St. Supplies are limited, and parents do not need to make an appointment. Consent forms are available, though, at the Health Department’s Web site and can be completed prior to the clinic.
Some pediatricians and family practice physicians in Boone County are offering the H1N1 vaccine for their patients. Parents are asked to consult their pediatrician for the availability of the vaccine.
