COLUMBIA — Police arrested a man near Columbia Square Townhomes on West Worley Street after a foot chase Tuesday.

Police spokeswoman Jessie Haden said two officers recognized a car belonging to Anthony Justin Johnson, 20, of Columbia while patrolling around 5 p.m. When officers identified Johnson and approached the vehicle, he ran away, Haden said. While chasing Johnson, an officer threatened to use his Taser, and Johnson stopped running. He was then arrested.

Police found a black .40-caliber handgun that had been reported stolen Oct. 21 near the front passenger seat of the car, where Johnson had been sitting. Police also reported finding about three grams of crack cocaine on his person.

The U.S. Marshals Service has a warrant out for Johnson's arrest on a charge of weapon possession.

Columbia police charged Johnson with unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon, second-degree drug trafficking and resisting arrest.
