KANSAS CITY — A third Kansas City-area man has been sentenced in a methamphetamine conspiracy that led to the killing of an Independence man three years ago.

Twenty-nine-year-old Vincent Gallegos of Raytown was sentenced Wednesday in federal court to 40 years in prison. He was also ordered to pay nearly $12,000 in restitution to help pay for the funeral.

Two other men were sentenced previously to 34 and 25 years in prison for the killing of Michael Scoville.

Federal prosecutors said Scoville owed one of the men several thousand dollars for drugs.

After learning that Scoville had money and meth, Gallegos drove with the other two defendants to Independence in October 2006 to rob him.

One of the men broke down the door to enter Scoville's apartment, and Gallegos shot Scoville twice when he resisted.
