COLUMBIA — Many faith groups in Columbia are planning events to mark Halloween. Some options for children and families include fall harvest parties or 'trunk or treat' events where children make a circuit around a parking lot gathering candy.
Some of the events:
FRIDAY

The event is billed as a children's candy parade.
SATURDAY
8 a.m., Underground Cafe, 111 S. Ninth St.
Karis Community Church will be holding a day of service to benefit the Boone County Council on Aging. Participants will meet at 8 a.m. at the Underground Cafe. Participants will be split into work teams and go out to different sites where they will help elderly residents with yard and house work. In a news release, Karis leaders said the church hopes to take a day that is normally geared toward gathering treats and instead do good deeds for others. This project is part of Karis' Shalom initiative.
