PrintCOLUMBIA — The Columbia City Council will hold public interviews this week with applicants for the Citizens Police Review Board.
The council will choose eight people from a pool of 18 applicants to serve on the board, which was formed by the city to provide civilian oversight of the Columbia Police Department. A ninth applicant will be chosen by the Columbia Human Rights Commission.
The applicants who will be interviewed are: Stephen Alexander, Peter Goodman, Kim Gorman, Robert Hibbs, Carroll Highbarger, Barbara Hodges, Veronica Jenkins, Andy Lee, Ellen LoCurto-Martinez, James Martin, John McClure, John Roodhouse, Lowell Schoengarth, Susan Smith, Vincent St. Omer, Steve Weinberg, Barbara Willis and Betty Wilson.
The council will interview each applicant for 15 minutes, and each council member will be allowed to ask applicants one question.
Once members are appointed, the board will review cases in which a citizen has appealed a Police Department decision clearing an officer of misconduct, according to the ordinance that created it. The board also will make recommendations to the police chief and the city manager on department policies and practice.
The session begins at 8 a.m. Saturday in the mezzanine conference room of the Daniel Boone City Building, 701 E. Broadway.
