COLUMBIA — A Sturgeon man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of second-degree robbery by the Boone County sheriff's deputies, the department said in a news release.

Clayton C. Suhrbier, 31, was arrested after allegedly demanding money from a gas station clerk at a gas station on the 5700 block of St. Charles Road, the release said. He did not have a weapon.

The department said Suhrbier fled the gas station on foot and ran east on St. Charles Road to a parked vehicle nearby. A witness saw the vehicle drive east on St. Charles Road and then another witness saw the vehicle turn onto a dead-end street, according to the release.

This second witness did not see the vehicle exit the street, and deputies were able to identify the suspect based on interviews with nearby residents, the department said.

Suhrbier is being held at the Boone County Jail, and bail has not yet been set.
