PrintJEFFERSON CITY — The State Historical Society of Missouri is reducing its operating hours and staff salaries in response to a state funding cut.
Gov. Jay Nixon last week cut 25 percent of the State Historical Society's nearly $1.5 million allotment for the fiscal year that runs through next June. Nixon cited declining state revenues as the reason for the move.
Because of that cut, the State Historical Society said Monday that it will no longer be open to the public for research on Fridays and Saturdays. It said employees are voluntarily taking a 20 percent pay reduction, and three positions have been eliminated.
The Society says it will seek private funds to publish the Missouri Historical Review and to continue its newspaper microfilming program.
